  1. What is WedCred?

WedCred makes it easy to give and receive monetary gifts for engaged couples. Gifts of money are practical, always appreciated, and can be very meaningful when used towards special purchases. Specifically, we are referring to items like furniture, beds, appliances, computers, artwork, etc. that most couples want or need but would be unlikely to receive with traditional gift registries. Givers have the convenience and safety of using their credit card, and our easy-to-use website allows the recipient to share wedding information and track gifts with the convenience of the Internet.

  2. How does WedCred work?

WedCred works like other wedding gift registries. A couple can register with WedCred in addition to another traditional gift registry. Just like with most gift registries, the couple can inform their guests that they are registered with WedCred. WedCred gives couples the ability to create their own personal wedding website that allows them to list information and post pictures about themselves and their wedding day. Friends and family members will be able to view the couple’s website by searching by either of the last names or by the specific Gift Registry Number assigned to the couple upon completing their WedCred registration. Friends and family members will then be able to give gifts to the couple in whole dollar amounts. WedCred will combine all the gifts given to the couple and will then send them a check for the combined amount of all the gifts given minus a small processing fee.

  3. What are your fees?

Setting up a registry with WedCred is absolutely free. We only receive fees when a gift is made to your registry. You will never pay anything out of pocket for your gift registry with us. Therefore, in the unlikely event that none of your guests contribute at WedCred, you will not incur any fees.

In the likely event that you do receive gifts, a flat fee of $20.00 will be subtracted from the final amount sent to the registry recipient. Gift registries where the total amount given is greater than or equal to $550.00 will be sent via certified mail for which an additional $3.00 postage fee will automatically be deducted from the couple’s WedCred Gift Registry balance.

Additionally, the person giving the gift will pay a transaction fee of either $1.99 or 3.5% of their gift amount, whichever is greater. For international gifts, the person giving the gift will pay a transaction fee of either $1.99 or 4.5% of their gift amount, whichever is greater.

See how much WedCred charges for this service for more information on our fees and to see examples.

  4. Why is WedCred better than a traditional gift registry?

WedCred provides a polite way to request monetary gifts as an alternative to the traditional store gift registry. Unlike store gifts, money allows the new couple to purchase what they want, how and when they choose. They may use the money towards a more meaningful gift (such as a computer, bed, or sofa), apply the money towards a dream honeymoon or home down payment, make a donation to their favorite charity, or invest the money for their future together. By uniting with other loved ones to give a larger monetary gift, givers can be confident that the couple will get what they truly want and need every time. 5. When will we receive our WedCred check?

The date you receive your check from WedCred is based on the date that you choose for your gift registry to stop accepting gifts. WedCred will mail your check within 3 business days of your registry close date. On average, you will receive your check within 3-7 business days of the gift registry close date.

  6. How are checks delivered?

Checks are mailed by WedCred within 3 business days after the gift registry close date (which is selected by the couple). Our checks are delivered via certified mail or regular mail (depending on the registry amount) and on average are delivered within 3-7 business after the gift registry close date. For your safety, all checks are made out to you, are marked "for deposit only," and will only be delivered to the current account address on file with WedCred when your gift registry closes.

  7. Is it appropriate for me to ask for money gifts for my event?

Absolutely. Money has always been an acceptable and even preferred gift for weddings. Gift registries were created to deal with the issue of duplicate gifts, but these registries have become so standard that many couples now find it difficult to politely request money. WedCred offers a solution to this problem by helping you design an informational webpage as part of your registry to share your plans for the money you receive. In addition to other registries, your guests will have an option to give you money that can be used towards any item of your choice. Friends and family who choose this option will be pleased to know that their generosity will be appreciated and used where needed most.

  8. Is it appropriate for me to register with WedCred and with a retail store?

Definitely. In addition to monetary gifts, we understand that you may also have a few specific items from retail outlets that you would really like to receive. If this is the case, an additional registry might be for you. Keep in mind that you can also use a portion of the money you receive from WedCred to make your smaller purchases. For busy couples who have little time to do the browsing required of a traditional registry, using WedCred alone may be the best option. The choice is entirely up to you as a couple.

  10. How much money should I give? What is an appropriate gift amount for a wedding?

The gift amount is your own personal choice, and depends on many factors, most importantly your personal budget and your relationship to the engaged couple. WedCred doesn’t have a minimum gift requirement amount, our only stipulation is that gifts given be in whole dollar amounts.

  13. What is the “Verification Number”?
