Privacy Policy

Effective Date: The Privacy Policy was last updated on May 8, 2008.

This Privacy Policy describes the information WedCred LLC ("WedCred" or "we") collects and how we use that information, including information about yourself and your credit or debit card.

WedCred strives to maintain high standards for the protection of privacy over the Internet. The purpose of this statement is to explain to our visitors the type of information WedCred obtains about visitors to our websites, how we gather it, how we use it, how long we retain it, and how visitors can restrict the use or disclosure of personally identifiable information. WedCred takes the privacy of your personal information very seriously and will use your information only in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy. We will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information or a list of our customers to third parties. However, there are limited circumstances in which some of your information will be shared with third parties, under strict restrictions, so it is important for you to review this Privacy Policy.

By accepting the User Agreement when creating a wedding gift registry account or giving a gift, you expressly consent to our use and disclosure of your personal information in the manner described in this Privacy Policy. If you object to your personal information being used in the manner described in this Privacy Policy, please do not use the WedCred service.

Information we collect

The personal information WedCred obtains about individual visitors to our websites is information the visitor supplies voluntarily. This means that you can visit our websites without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. To gauge the effectiveness of our websites, we do collect some generic information about our visitors. Our web servers automatically recognize a visitor's domain name (such as .com, .edu, etc.), the point of entry from which a visitor enters our site (including web pages, User Guide CDs or banner ads), the specific pages visited on our site, and how much time a visitor spends on each page. This information is not linked to any personally identifiable information about the visitor. We or our contractors use web beacons (i.e., "cookies") to track use of our sites and to track what sites users came from, but do not collect personally identifiable information via these web beacons. We aggregate this information and use it to evaluate and improve our websites. We do not track user activity on sites outside of WedCred.

Required Information

To give a monetary gift you must provide your name, address, email address and credit or debit card information. To establish a wedding gift registry account, you must provide personal information that includes, but is not limited to, name, physical address, email address, mailing address if different than the physical address, phone number, dates and places of the wedding and reception, and any other information that itself identifies, or when tied to the above information, may identify you as a specific individual. We also may ask you to create a security question to answer (such as your city of birth or your pet's name). We also collect the Internet address (IP address) of the computer or device you use to access your WedCred gift registry account, in order to help detect possible instances of unauthorized transactions.

WedCred may collect personally identifiable information (such as name, email address, postal address) and/or third party personally identifiable information through this website. In some situations, such as when you create a wedding gift registry or give a gift to a wedding gift registry, WedCred will collect billing information, such as your credit card number and billing address, and we may share this information with our third parties contractors (such as your credit card company solely for the purpose of processing the transaction you have requested). You may choose to provide individual information to WedCred in a number of ways through our websites such as by:

When visitors supply information about themselves for a specific purpose, WedCred uses the information for that purpose (such as to provide the information the visitor has requested). When visitors visit our websites to use or request information about our services, we may use the individual information as we would use the same information obtained offline - for example, to evaluate your service needs and contact you regarding additional services you may find useful. You have the right to choose not to receive this information by notifying us of your preference.

When a user sets up a wedding gift registry with WedCred, we collect certain information such as their name, mailing address, etc. This information is collected not only for WedCred gift mailing purposes, but also as verification tools to protect our users against fraudulent/duplicate gift registry accounts.

We do not sell individual information obtained online about our visitors. We will not disclose the individual information provided to us online to anyone outside of WedCred and our contractors unless you specifically authorize such disclosure (e.g. by using a credit card you authorize us to provide information regarding the purchase to your credit card company), it is required by law, or disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of customers, employees or property.

If you provide individual information to us in the context of an event WedCred sponsors with another company, such as a contest, or if you register on a co-sponsored site or feature, you may also be providing the information to the co-sponsor. In those circumstances, the co-sponsor's privacy policy will control, so review their information carefully. WedCred from time to time uses third party contractors to perform services such as website management, site design, site hosting and special promotions but does not use visitor information for other purposes beyond providing specific services on WedCred's website.

Information About You From Third Parties

In order to protect against potential fraud, we may verify with third parties the information you provide when creating a wedding gift registry account. In the course of such verification, we may receive personally identifiable information about you from such services. In particular, we will use card authorization and fraud screening services to verify that your card information and address matches the information that you supplied to WedCred.

If you send or receive high overall payment volumes through WedCred, in some circumstances we will conduct a background check by obtaining information about you from a credit bureau. WedCred, at its sole discretion, also reserves the right periodically to retrieve and review a consumer credit report for any gift account, and reserves the right to close a gift account based on information obtained during this credit review process.

Disclosure to Third Parties

WedCred will not sell or rent any of your personally identifiable information to third parties. WedCred will not share any of your personally identifiable information with third parties except in the limited circumstances described below, or with your express permission. These third parties are limited by law or by contract from using the information for secondary purposes beyond the purposes for which the information is shared.

Email

WedCred does not send unsolicited "junk" email (spam). We may use email to communicate with our customers, to respond to visitors' emails, to confirm orders placed online, and to send information that a visitor has requested. If you receive an unwanted email from us, you can simply reply to ask not to receive future emails.

WedCred provides an unsubscribe function in its email campaigns in order for subscribers to opt out of further email communications from us.

Use of cookies

WedCred.com does not employ the use of cookies on its website to collect any personally identifiable information about any of our visitors. However, WedCred.com cannot guarantee that all sites that are linked to or from our site employ the same policies. Please review each individual site's privacy policy.

"Cookies" are small files of data that reside on your computer and allow us to recognize you as a WedCred customer if you return to the WedCred site using the same computer and browser. We may send a "session cookie" to your computer if and when you sign-in to your gift account by entering your email address and password. These cookies allow us to recognize you if you visit multiple pages in our site during the same session, so that you don't need to re-enter your password multiple times. Once you log out or close your browser, these session cookies expire and no longer have any effect.

We may also use longer-lasting cookies to display your email address on our sign-in form, so that you don't have to retype the email address each time when you sign-in to your WedCred account. Our cookie files are encoded so that your email address and other information can only be interpreted by WedCred.

All credit card applications listed with WedCred.com use a Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) line provided you are using a SSL enabled browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. This ensures that your information is encrypted as it travels over the Internet. This secure mode is enabled before any such information is transmitted from your computer. You will know you are in secure mode when the padlock or key icon in the lower right-hand or left-hand corner of the computer screen appears in the locked position. You will usually only see this icon only when you are filling out an application. In addition, when accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from "http" to "https."

WedCred is committed to safeguarding customer privacy on all our websites. We require our employees to protect the privacy of information about our customers and expect our partners and suppliers to do so as well. You can feel confident that your individual information will be protected when you access your wedding gift registry account or give a gift to an existing gift registry account. We employ security measures to safeguard your transactions with us and we test our security systems often.

WedCred is committed to handling your customer information with high standards of information security. We restrict access to your personally identifiable information to employees who need to know that information in order to provide our service to you.

The security of your WedCred account also relies on your protection of your WedCred password. You may not share your WedCred password with anyone. We ask that you treat your wedding gift registry account and chosen password like any other financial account (checking/credit card) so as to guarantee the protection and security of your wedding gift registry account with WedCred. WedCred will never ask you to send your password or other sensitive information to us in an email, though we may ask you to enter this type of information on the WedCred website, which will always have a URL beginning with https://secure.wedcred.com/.

Children

WedCred is committed to protecting the privacy of children and to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). WedCred does not intentionally or knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18. Parents are requested to supervise their children's online activities and consider using available parental control tools to help provide a safe online environment. For additional information about COPPA, visit the U.S. Federal Trade Commission Web site at http://www.ftc.gov.

Compliance with laws

Though we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law wherein we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our websites.

Links to other websites

The WedCred website contains links to other sites. We are not responsible for the content or the privacy practices employed by other sites. These sites are governed by their own privacy statements, and WedCred is not responsible for their operations, including but not limited to their information practices. Users submitting information to or through these third party websites should review the privacy statement of these sites before providing them with personally identifiable information.

To improve the services it can offer you, WedCred may opt to expand its capabilities for obtaining information about users in the future. WedCred will update this privacy statement continually to ensure that you are aware of developments in this area.

Users may access, correct, and update information they have provided to WedCred by visiting our website, logging into their gift registry account and making the necessary changes they require. If users are unable to make the change themselves, they can contact WedCred by using the WedCred “Contact Us” link.

Notice of changes

In the future, we may need to change the privacy statement for WedCred as new features are added to our services or as we incorporate suggestions from our customers. We will post the amended Privacy Policy prominently on our website and all changes will be clearly made within this policy so that you will always know what information we gather, how we might use that information and whether we will disclose it to anyone. Please check the WedCred website at www.wedcred.com at any time for the most current version of our Privacy Policy.

Internal Uses

We collect, store and process your personal information on servers located in the United States. We use the information we collect about you in order to 1) provide our services, 2) provide customer service, 3) determine your eligibility to receive offers for special features or products, and 4) improve our products and services. We give access to individually identifiable information about our users only to those employees who require it to fulfill customer service requests.

Customer Service Correspondence

If you send us correspondence, including emails and faxes, we retain such information in the records of your account. We will also retain customer service correspondence and other correspondence from WedCred to you. We retain these records in order to measure and improve our customer service, and to investigate potential fraud and violations of our User Agreement. We may, over time, delete these records if permitted by law.

Disclosure to Other Users

On the WedCred website, for each wedding gift registry account, we display the names of the owners, the date of the wedding, and any event description or additional information that the owner submitted during the wedding gift registry account creation process. When a user gives a gift, we will share the giver's name, gift amount and email address with the wedding gift registry account owner.

Communication with WedCred Customers

We communicate with users on a regular basis via email to provide requested services, and we also communicate by phone to resolve customer complaints or other issues. We use your email address to send you notice of gifts given, confirmation of gifts given, information about important changes to our products and services, as well as notices and other disclosures required by law. Generally, users cannot opt out of these communications, but they will be primarily informational in nature rather than promotional.

Changing Your Wedding Gift Registry Account Information

You can review the personal information you provided to us and make any desired changes to such information, or to the settings for your WedCred gift registry account, at any time by logging in to your gift account on the WedCred website and changing your preferences in the gift registry account settings. You can also close your gift registry account by logging in and selecting the gift registry account close date, or by notifying us by phone or email. If you close your WedCred gift registry account, we will mark your gift registry account in our database as "Closed," but will keep your gift registry account information in our database. This is necessary in order to deter fraud, by ensuring that persons who try to commit fraud will not be able to avoid detection simply by closing their gift account and opening a new one. However, if you close your gift registry account, your personally identifiable information will not be used by us for any further purposes, nor will it be sold or shared with third parties, except as necessary to prevent fraud and assist law enforcement, or as required by law.

Contests, Questionnaires, Surveys and Profile Data

From time to time, WedCred may offer contests, questionnaires, and surveys in which you can participate. Participation in these contests, questionnaires, and surveys is completely voluntary and the user therefore has a choice as to whether or not to disclose this information. Information requested may include, but is not limited to, contact information (such as name and shipping address) and demographic information (such as zip code, age range). The use of the information collected will be explained in detail in the contest, survey or questionnaire. If we collect personally identifiable information from our users in these contests, questionnaires, and surveys, the users will be given notice of how the information will be used prior to their participation in the contest, survey or questionnaire. Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Contests, questionnaires, and surveys will have additional terms to this statement.
