Welcome to Charlie and Wendy’s website! We are counting down the days until the wedding and are truly excited to share this day with each of you. In fact, we firmly believe that we wouldn’t be here, at this point in our lives, without the influence of our friends and family. We hope to make the event of our wedding as special for you as it will be for us.

What We Plan To Do With The Gift

As we prepare to merge our lives (and our stuff) into our new home we find ourselves with our very first dining room! As neither of us have even had room in our apartments for a kitchen table we are excited about the idea of graduating from coffee table dining. With your WedCred gift to us, we would like to purchase a dining room set. We’ve already found the very table we’d like—one we can see ourselves sitting around at our 50th wedding anniversary party. You can view the table here.

We hope to purchase the Hartford-Mission chairs as well as the dining room hutch.

Additional Information

About Wendy

Wendy Rowan, originally from Pittsburgh, PA is a third-grade teacher at Banneker Elementary School. She came to the Chicago area in 1999 to attend Northwestern University. Apart from working and planning a wedding, Wendy volunteers at 826 Chicago, a writing/tutoring center for kids.

About Charles

Charlie Lewis works as a speech pathologist doing independent contract work with Chicago public schools. He grew up in the Chicago suburb, River Forrest. Charlie graduated from Loyola University in 2001 and then attended graduate school at the University of Illinois Chicago where he studied audiology. He is training to run the Chicago marathon this fall (for the third time!) and is proud to say that he is learning Spanish in hopes of using it on their honeymoon to Acapulco.

How We Met

You guessed it. Charlie has worked off and on with kids at Banneker Elementary for the last few years. He said he noticed me in the teacher’s lounge the first day he visited the school but it was months before we even had a conversation. The next time he came to the school though, I told him that I had two tickets to a play at the Steppenwolf (I’d heard he was a fan) and that I thought he should use one of them. He gladly accepted under the conditions that he could take me to dinner first. And the rest, my friends is history (after I actually went and bought the tickets-it had been a small fib that came out in the wash months later).

The Proposal

Was simple and sweet. We were camping in Wisconsin with some of our good friends. We were all sitting around the fire and Charlie had arranged for the others to slowly, one, by one, scram. Pretty soon it was just the two of us sitting there making s’mores (I was oblivious!). Charlie just quietly handed me a stick with 2 marshmallows on it and dangling between them was a lovely diamond ring. Neither of us really had to say much- I just put on the ring and smiled a lot. (I knew he was asking and he knew I was saying yes.) It was perfect to be with our friends to celebrate the occasion for the rest of the weekend!

Things To Do In The Area

Fun things to do in Chicago:

Ahh… “fun things to do” and “Chicago” in the same sentence is just plain redundant.

A great website with extensive lists

We personally recommend:
1. Catching a Cubs game if you have the time.

2. Heading to North Avenue Beach to relax and people watch

3. An architectural boat tour on the Chicago river

4. Brunch on the top of the John Hancock building is a great way to see the city from above.

5. The Children’s Museum on Navy Pier is a great activity for people bringing kids (and even for people without-we must confess)

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us!
